Early 20th Century
The first Schneiders involved in this industry weren’t… They were carriage and coach builders who emigrated to the United States at the turn of the 20th century and suddenly found themselves ‘garaging’ and ‘servicing’ the ‘horseless carriages’ that began appearing throughout the greater New York area.
My father grew up in those garages with his grandfather and father and in his uncle’s service station near Coney Island.
New York to California
After serving in the Coastal Artillery and Army Air Corps during World War II as a mechanic and Crew Chief, he returned to Brooklyn, where he opened his first service station.
Six years later, after being trapped at work for five days during “The Blizzard of 1962” we became “the Schneider Family; formerly of Oceanside, New York.”
California Here We Come
We left Oceanside on August 11th, arrived in Los Angeles on August 15th; and, never looked back.
Three-and-a-half-years later, we opened a three-bay, Richfield Service Station at the Cloverfield Blvd./26th Street off-ramp of the Santa Monica Freeway.
I learned my craft by watching my father, the ultimate Zen Master, who never answered a question directly. Questions were answered with questions and discovery became a way of learning and of life. Fourteen years later, a client of ours helped us purchase our present location and we are still here more than 32 years.
Schneider’s Auto Repair Today
I’ve grown up in this industry and in this community. I’ve raised my family here and started a second career as an educator, seminar facilitator, author and trade journalist. I’m passionate about what I do and love the people for whom I’m privileged to do it. I’ve gathered a team of professionals who are just as committed and caring as I am. Two have been with me for more than 20 years and two have been with me for almost 10.
